Pratte: Will Obama be successful in convincing Netanyahu not to strike Iran?
I am not sure American pressures count for as much a many think on Israeli policy. In this specific case, Israel knows that under Obama, Washington does not have the will to use the military option to wipe out Iran's nuclear laboratories. So, if and when Tel Aviv becomes convinced that Teheran is on the verge of adding a nuclear weapon to its arsenal, it will not wait for diplomats to convene. It will strike, regardless of what President Obama tells Mr. Netanyahu next week. It may not be a wise decision as far as regional security is concerned. But, for understandable reasons considering some statements made by Irani leaders, Israelis see things from a different perspective.
