There is no shortage of "cultural" studies, not to mention eminent voices in the arts, which will tell you public and private investment in culture can pay dividends for us all. This is something those of us who are lucky enough to work in this sector fervently believe.
It can be difficult, however, to prove the point to fellow citizens in the broader economic context. Which is why I am delighted to present a significant piece of homegrown proof that community investment in the arts, even in the supposedly limited market of creating opera, is a windfall for us all.
I bring your attention to Vancouver's Opera hit, Nixon in China.
