When it comes to innovation, the world is not flat. Regions that drive the global economy with cutting-edge innovation are those with assets such as large intellectual property (IP) portfolios, start-up cultures, and scientific citations. IP has become an important commercial asset that can be bought, bartered, and shared.

Building intellectual property regimes is not simply about national economic prosperity, it is also about global security and sustainability. A nation’s ability to grow crops under tougher environmental conditions, provide clean water to more people and unlock renewable energy resources depends on its ability to develop new technologies and manage its IP resources. The strategic policy choices made by governments will determine which nations will rise to meet these global challenges.

The Canadian International Council’s (CIC) international conference will address some of these critical issues, and will examine how Canada manages its IP resources and compare it to strategies executed in other countries and by innovative institutions and companies around the world.

  • IP as the new currency of corporations and a centre piece of international trade talks

  • Collaborating on IP: New Partnerships in the Sustainable Energy Sector

  • Technology Transfer: Accelerating Innovation by Engaging Industry and Institutions

  • Intellectual Property Rights VS Access to Medicine – Finding the Right Balance

  • Improving Canada’s IP Legal Regime

  • Canadian IP Policy from CEOs’ point of view
