Stephen Baranyi

Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa and chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Study Group of the Canadian International Council’s National Capital Branch.
Stephen Baranyi is an Associate Professor with the School of International Development and Global Studies at the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining the University in 2008, he worked as a practitioner with various governmental, non-governmental and research institutions in Canada, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. Stephen teaches and conducts critical research at the nexus of development and security – on security system reform, development cooperation, peacebuilding and gender equality in fragile and conflict-affected states. His work currently focuses on Haiti, though he situates that work in a broader hemispheric and global context. He is also the current chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Study Group of the Canadian International Council’s National Capital Branch.
