Canadian Senator and retired Lieutenant-General
The Honourable Roméo Dallaire had a distinguished career in the Canadian military, achieving the rank of Lieutenant-General. He served as Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda in 1993-1994. His experiences there became the subject of the book Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda. He currently serves as a Canadian senator. His most recent book, They Fight Like Soldiers; They Die Like Children – the Global Quest to Eradicate the Use of Child Soldiers, introduces the Child Soldier phenomenon and solutions to eradicate it: a mission to which LGen Dallaire has committed the rest of his life.
