Matthew Schroyer, is the founder of, which seeks to establish ethical guidelines and the technological framework for the emerging field of drone journalism. He holds a master’s in journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he contributed to various data journalism projects that mapped crime and the health effects of pollution. He’s written for newspapers, news weeklies and websites, including the drone news website Schroyer currently writes and conducts learning network research at EnLiST, a National Science Foundation grant to improve STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). There he also develops the “Drones for Schools” program, and teaches students to design, build and program unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor the environment.
