Matthew Gouett is a PhD Candidate at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. His research seeks to determine why countries create sovereign wealth funds and why some sovereign wealth funds deliver on their mandates while others do not, with a particular focus on the political and economic factors that lead to better or worse results among SWFs. Matthew Gouett holds an M.A. in Political Science from McMaster University and a B.B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University. Matthew has held professional posts at Export Development Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development, as well as the Ontario government’s Cabinet Office.
