Chris Cooper

Head of Research at the Centre for Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Essex.
Professor Chris Cooper is a biochemist with over 20 years research and teaching experience. He obtained a PhD in 1989, a Medical Research Council Fellowship in 1992, and a Wellcome Trust University Award in 1995. In 1997 he won the Melvin H. Knisely Award for 'Outstanding international achievements in research related to oxygen transport to tissue' . In 1999 he became a Professor in the Centre for Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Essex, where he is the current Head of Research. His research interests include testing muscle oxygen monitoring devices to aid UK athletes in their training for the Olympics. Run, Swim, Throw Cheat, published by Oxford University Press in 2012, is his first book aimed at the general public.
