Bob Press

Association Professor of Political Science at the University of Southern Mississippi
Bob Press is an Association Professor of Political Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. Among other subjects, he teaches human rights. From 2008-09 he was a Fulbright Fellow at Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone, where he taught courses in human rights and democracy. He also did research on how people there peacefully resisted authoritarian regimes, a subject on which he is preparing a book that will also include Kenya and Liberia. Prior to entering academia, he was a foreign correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor for eight years, based in Kenya and covering East and West Africa. He is the author of two books: Peaceful Resistance: Advancing Human Rights and Democratic Freedom (Ashgate, U.K., 2006); and The New Africa: Dispatches from a Changing Continent (U.
