America declines to fall

Is America in decline? It’s a question that’s been posed many times in the past year, and one question Chester Crocker attempted to answer — and reframe a little — Monday night when he was speaking in Ottawa.

As former U.S. assistant secretary of state, it’s a question he’s certainly qualified to answer. But first, he noted that it’s not new. He outlined previous times through history — in the 1950s, after the Vietnam War, even after the Cold War — when the world has speculated on America’s decline.
