In January, the South Saskatchewan Branch of the CIC along with University of Saskatchewan hosted Professor Andy Knight (University of Calgary) who spoke on child soldiers. The event provided an opportunity to discuss opportunities and restrictions in state sovereignty and intervention. It also was a CIC outreach to students in the community.
On February 24, the branch hosted David Dyment who discussed “Doing the Continental: A New Canadian-American Relationship.” The event also included Trade Commissioners from US Consulates. This event was a new step forward for branch renewal. In March, the branch, along with the Royal Commonwealth Society, will be hosting Senator Hugh Segal speaking on the future of the Commonwealth. A new tool being used by our branch is Eventbrite, an online event scheduling software. It can help promote activities, provide online registration and payment, and distribute invitations. Online registration is a ”best practice,” especially for the younger generation who prefer to register online for events.
