Event Description: Flora Terah is an International women’s rights advocate who was one of about 200 women who ran for parliament in the Kenyan elections in 2007, and in the process was abducted, tortured and abused because of her actions. She is committed to mobilizing an end to gender-based violence, and has founded and is the Executive Director of “Terah against Terror” – a civil society organization that campaigns on behalf of victims of gender-based violence based in Nairobi.

She was the Director on Women’s Education drafting a Constitution for women’s rights, and developed partnerships with many other women’s organizations in Nairobi including, United Nations Fund For Women (UNIFEM), Gender and Governance Program, Centre for Collaboration on Human Rights, Women Political Alliance, and the Women’s Caucus. She is the author of They Never Killed My Spirit: But They Murdered My Only Child and her next book Beyond Pain is due out this fall. Ms. Terah is committed to running for office again in the next Parliamentary elections in Kenya in 2012.
